Mitz on Cartooning

...because it's true.

Choice

The frame on this 36x48 inch piece (not shown) is constructed of hardwood, animal bones (road kills, farm kills, and butcher leavings), doll parts, and surgical steel medical instruments. The grip points are placed specifically so that when a person picks up the piece, strain is felt through the lower abdominal area.

He hangs with a little book that tells the story of how I came to paint him.

Changing things around

I've decided to delete all my doll stuff from this gallery. It kinda sucks, but I'm a little frustrated by people who surf in here just to ask me questions about the Ulquiorra doll and not even look at the rest of the art; for some reason that doesn't bother me as much with the 2D fan art I've done. Maybe it's because the average Hellsing fan is older than the average Bleach fan. I don't know. No offense, to either youngsters or Bleach fans. Just after the 20th time I got asked a question about factory-produced merchandise that a person could have just as easily answered by hitting Google with the info I presented in the initial doll post, I feel like I'm going to puke every time I get a fave on Ulquiorra. Yes, I did a fantastic job, but all the base parts save his Hollow mask, are something anyone could purchase at any time off the internet with enough money. All I did to the head was resculpt the eyes; it took a couple minutes with some modeling compound. It's not like any of the stuff I personally sculpted *from my own designs* that also graces this gallery. I find it somewhat demoralizing and insulting that the thing that gets the most hits and favs in my gallery is not remotely "mine".

Customizing dolls, model kids, and action figures is my hobby. It's one I don't get to do often because I'm not employed at a doll shop anymore (I'm selling art for a living full time again, emotionally satisfying but time consuming and less fluid income) and IF I get the chance to do more BJDs or vinyl dolls any time soon, I am more likely to create an all-doll gallery on dA than I am to post them in this one. At that point, Ulquiorra would reappear. I still need to make his lil outfit anyway, and I want to build him some prosthetic/switchable options for his release form, too. Did you know I sculpted a 1:6 scale bjd? I just failed completely on the first try at jointing, but he does exist. Maybe I'll get some down time in January and go all dolls-to-the-wall or something.

For those of you who do actually watch to see my artwork, what do you want to see more of? I would really appreciate if you did not say, "Other people's work reinterpreted". I have nothing against fan art; I love fan art. I have a collection of it. I am as nerdy as they come. I just am not, myself, primarily a fan artist. Sorry about that.

...? You could replicate the exact same doll by purchasing all the parts... it will cost you over $600 unless you're very well connected, just warning you... :)

where did u get the doll?
:iconvektar:
It's a fusion the Dollzone 60 cm boy body (purchased via my former employer, Dolls & Friends, now closed) and one of their girl head sculpts (Yage, IIRC, it was a gift), the eyes are from Souldoll (N Cat 7), forget where I found the wig, and the faceup etc are by me. :)
